Hypermobility With Archery
Hi there.
I'm a 17 year old female, and I have been participating in archery for 7 years (with a 2 year break, due to a shoulder injury, involving a shoulder stabilisation operation, and having returned in Janurary this year). I have shoulder hypermobility (in both shoulders), neck hypermobility (although I'm not sure of the logistics of this, it was just a passing comment), and regular other joint pains.
I wanted to know two things, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
First of all, I would like to know if anyone has any knowledge of how shoulder hypermobility would affect an archer. In particular, would hypermobility affect my ability to do the same action repetatively?
Secondly, I have found, as of a training session today, that I need to increase my neck ROM (it is currently below normal ROM in comparison to the other archers around me at the time). I am looking for ways to do this, and I am also wondering how this will affect my shoulder hypermobility.
Thanks a heap for any help. Feel free to ask anymore questions you need to help out.
Michelle
Re: Hypermobility With Archery
does anyone have any signifigant knowledge of hypermobility that might help me then? I understand there aren't a lot of archers around.
Re: Hypermobility With Archery
Hey,
I'm sorry I can't help specifically with your query, physio's that specialise in hypermobility are few and far between! But I wondered if you had heard of this forum: http://www.hypermobility.org/phpBB2/index.php it's for people with hypermobility (as well as for medical staff), if you have a look on there they might be able to point you in the direction of a physio that specialises in hypermobility....or some of the people themselves may have had similar experiences and could maybe help you out.
Good luck!:)
