Are there any senior adults here who had done physiotherapy treatment?
Hey folks,
My grandma is suffering from back pain for over two years. This prevented her from doing even simple things like going for a walk. Now she is not able to walk distances without having to stop, and her condition is getting worse as each day passes. After on recommendation from our neighbour, we decided to take her to a physiotherapist so that she can remain active. But we are still confused about taking her to a physiotherapist. She is now seventy years old and doesn't know how effective the physiotherapytreatment will be.
Are there any senior adults here who had done physiotherapy treatment? How was your experience?
Re: Are there any senior adults here who had done physiotherapy treatment?
Hi,
Physiotherapists assess and treat predominantly physical problems. Age does not matter.
In fact, physiotherapy for the elderly is a whole area of specialisation in itself.
My current oldest client is 91. :)
Wishing your grandmother all the best,

Hi Hought,
I think it would also be good if you can take your grandmother for lower back and hip MRI. I work with the older population and my mom is also an elderly woman.
It is up to the Physio to decide plan, or pathway of treatment, but by the little info you gave, I would do 3 things: 1 hands on physio... Dry needling, miofascial release and massage maybe 2 lots of weight bearing exercises, transfer Ed, core stab program 3 walking exercise program maybe with assistave device.
Hope it helps

Hi Hought! Physiotherapy is the best possible option you have for your grandmother, taking her age into predominant consideration. A good physiotherapist can customize the process depending on her age and her physical requirements. Aged people may confidently undergo physiotherapy sessions. But make sure your therapist is qualified and has expertise in dealing with senior adult clients.
