I would look for the visual analogue pain scale or VAS. I believe it has good intra and inter therapist reliability and is what many of use learn as undergrads. Basically it is the old 0-10 (or is that 1-10) pain scale? I think there's even a modified version and one for children or for those of don't fully comprehend it by using versions of a smiling face from happy to upset...
More later, have to treat the first patient of the day :)
how's this
!. my arm's sore
2. my arm's really sore
3. my arm's really really sore
4. jeez this arm is killing me
5. don't you bloody touch my arm
6. ooohh , uggh, oh my god , yeaah , my elbow is a shocker
7. give me the injection would ya doc.
8. another one
9. yessss.
and an 11 would be Oh Babie... don't stop?
What on earth?!!
But seriously, I use the VAS too....or if you wanted a more chronic pain measure you could try the McGill
