knee/thigh problem
Hello everyone,
I have previously had jumpers knee after a lot of running (over lots of hills), with
severe pain under my kneecap!
After eliminating running for several weeks/months, and subsequently increasing my cycling, I have a new problem to worry about:
Here are the symptoms:
- short, sharp pains in lower thigh (on inside front of leg), and where it connects to the kneecap. (note: pain is on side of kneecap (inside front of leg), not on top)
- more pain while sitting behind desk
- pain goes away, for the most part, once warmed up and cycling
- some clicking when extend knee
(- also associated seems to be: tight hamstrings)
the pain is distinctly different, and also in a different location, from what i experienced after running, does this mean it is probably not patellar tendonitis ?
i'm not sure whether it is likely to be
(1) a thigh muscle that is pulled, and therefore to apply heat and massage, or
(2) tendonitis around kneecap, requiring ice etc.
Any thoughts?
Thank you for helping!

Re: knee/thigh problem
Hi,
Have you actually had an incident when you have injured your knee since the patella tendonitis injury? Have you tried to stretch your quads? Any pain or tightness?
pain goes away, for the most part, once warmed up and cycling Does the pain return when you have been cycling for a set period?

Re: knee/thigh problem
Thanks for the reply!
I have not had an injury to the knee since the patella tendonitis problem, which seemed to have cleared up several months previously.
I do stretch my quads etc. before and after each ride, these do feel fairly tight but no real pain.
While cycling the pain only seems to return when I ease up going downhill after a climb. But I can cycle happily (once warmed up) uphill for an hour or so without pain.
Thanks

Re: knee/thigh problem
I would want to look at the tracking of your patella. I would strengthen the quads with squats, but you need to be shown correctly how to do these to get the correct alignment.
You best bet is to book in for an asessment with a physio, it would be hard to go further on a forum
