Re: Isaac-Mertens Syndrome
Never seen anyone with it or heard of it before, but my trusty Merck Manual (17th Edn) describes it as:
A disorder of neuromuscular transmission.
Unknown cause, predominantly limb symptoms. Affects peripheral nerves.
Symptoms include: muscle twitching, arm & leg spasms, intermittent cramps, increased sweating and pseudomyotonia (impired muscle relaxation after a strong contraction but without true EMG changes).
Symptom relief is via Carbamazepine or phenytoin.
No info on physical treatment modalities or prognosis, unfortunately.
hope this helps a wee bit

Re: Isaac-Mertens Syndrome
Hello All
I am the patient with Isaac Syndrome I have been suffering for a long time when I visited a physio I expected more from a professional than I received if I wanted to look at the Merk Manual I would have done it myself I suggest to both of you that one day you might be laying on the other side of the treatment table. Have ago at giving me some help
Maybe one of your 20 thousand members can offer me some advice.

Re: Isaac-Mertens Syndrome
Dear Antony
Thanks so much for your kind words and understanding
Up until 6 months ago I was fit and active and now I'm greatly debilitated by this syndrome
My comments were made out of sheer frustration, continuing pain and anxiety
Accordingly, I apologise for any hurt I may have caused you or your colleagues
I'm extremely worried that I will not be able to walk my daughter down the isle in October
I do understand the research you have explained to me in your post and appreciate your efforts
but I am desperate for any further help I can get and I trust you will see me on a professional basis should the need arise
Regards
Rick
