aid for thumb
hi everyone
I am a physio with hyperextended thumbs, as I try to look after them, it's just difficult to avoid mobilization.
So my question is: is there anything that I can wear before doing mob. to help take stress off my IP joints? and where to buy them from?
any suggestions are preciated

The Australian Physio Association magazine (in motion i think) has a huge ad for something that is called a "Thumb Mate", at least I think that is what it is called. I will try and dig out a web reference later today.

Have you tried locating the sp or tp with your thumb then using the hypothenar of the opposite hand to create the articulating movement. I suffer from the same condition and I find this works for me.
Best wishes
Bill

Thanks, Physiobase, I went thru InMotion few times, but didn't see the thing that you mentioned. I tried a google search on "thumb mate" but couldn't get any further.
That'll be great if you have bit more information on where to find it. Thanks Physiobase, the future of my thumbs lay on your hand (don't feel too stressed about it :D )
Thanks too, BillOst. I tried, that works for me if I am only doing THx or Lx mob, neck is just too small to do it that way. It's good technique, but just not on the neck area. Appreciated lo :)

Several physios I know have gotten OT's to make custom, rigid splints for them. They seem to work. Good luck. Marj
