Improper utilization of calf muscle?
Good morning - hoping for a little advice.
I believe that I utilize my calf muscles incorrectly. Is this even possible?
When I run, jump rope, docalf raises - anything utilizing my calf muscle,Iget a pain and soreness lower in my leg - not in my muscle. I get sore inthe region below the calf down to the ankle. This area sometimes swells, and even gets larger when I workout hard. Due to a thickening of the lower portion of my lower leg, I have a terrible tapering shape from my calf to my ankle with a ratio of about 1.5 to 1.
Is there anyway to retrain the muscles in my calf to be more fully utilized?
Thank for the help - and let me know if I can provide anymore information on the issue.
Re: Improper utilization of calf muscle?
Have you previously had a tear in the soleus?
Are you describing the achilles' area? If not, which area specifically?
Re: Improper utilization of calf muscle?
Ive never torn the soleius - that I know of...
Its not the achilles tendon, but the area directly below the calf and wrapping around to the outside of the leg...
Re: Improper utilization of calf muscle?
If you are referring to the 'bulk' of the calf muscle that is the two heads of the gastroc, underneath which is the tendon of the gastroc which superficially lies over the soleus. So either it is the tendon of the gastroc, or the soleus causing the problem. But without seeing it pointed out, very difficult to tell.
