MMT in movement restricted joints
hi all
i am a bit confused regarding grading of muscle power in joints which are restricted to move thru full range.
i will explain the scenario.
a person came with restriction of knee joint mobility
passively range of flexion 0-60degree
actively he can take upto 0-40
he can take mild resistance upto 30 degree flexion
according to you guys what grade should i give hor the knee flexors????
Re: MMT in movement restricted joints
I tend to just do isometric testing but note the ROM in my notes. So I would probably grade them as 3+ or 4- / 5 then note the ranges in the client's chart. (Probably wouldn't work great for standardizing when it comes to research but it's the info that I need when I reassess the client)
Based on the grading system that takes in to account strength through out available range of motion...
3+/5 = less than half the available ROM against resistance equal to the weight of teh limb plus moderate resistance
3-/5 = greater than half the available ROM against resistance equal to the weight of the limb
