australia registration for newly qualified physios
Hi,
I am looking to emigrate to Australia next summer with my husband (who is from New Zealand). I have recently completed my 3 year phsio degree in England and have yet to find work here in England.
I understand I need to apply for the APC exams however the question I cannot find the answer to, is whether having passed these exams I will be employable and able to register in Australia without any previous work experience (especially as I know this cannot be done in NZ).
I also understand each territory has different rules on this.
Is anyone in a similar situation or does anyone know whether it is possible to work/register in Australia as a newly qualified physio form England. I am particularly looking to work in or around Melbourne or Adelaide.
Thanks! :)
Amy
Re: australia registration for newly qualified physios
I am looking into registration in Australia as well. As far as I know, only NZ-qualifed physio can directly register in any province in Australia, and Canadian-trained physio can directly register in WA. All other internationally-trained physio can either go through the lengthy and expensive process (accreditation and exams) to get registered in Australia. Once you pass the exam, you are eligible to register in any province in Aus. Another way to register in Aus is to go through the registration in NZ. There are no exams in NZ but you will have to complete a very 'thorough' application (like the CPD). Once you register in NZ, you can register in any province in Australia. However, to register in NZ, they require a minimum of 1 year's work experience.

Re: australia registration for newly qualified physios
Hi Amy,
I am looking to register as a physio in Aus having graduated this summer, I am from Aus but did my degree here in the UK. When i was last in Aus 1.5 years ago i spoke with a physio in my local area and she had mentioned that she knew two UK trained physio's who had done the registration and exams almost immediately after finishing their degree in the UK and were over working in Aus, and encouragedm me to apply to do the same as soon as i finished my degree. Additionally in the guidance booklet on the physiocouncil website (Assement for Registration Purposes - written assessment - click on link to information booklet) it doesn't mention the need to have had a certain level of experience after obtaining the degree and having registered with the relevant body in your country of study. I was under the assumption that i would need to work for a year before putting in my application to register as a physio in Aus, until i read through the information booklet. Hope this helps!
I'm very confused about the Initial application form for general registration though, section E question 19!!?? If I answer no, what other form do I use....anyone else had this problem?
Cheers
Crystal
