post lateral malleous fracture
Hi all, i am new to this today and i m still not sure how it works!!!
Broke my ankle in 2 places (lateral malleous) 6 weeks ago spent 5 weeks in plaster.
Thought once the plaster came off all would be fine, but i am experiencing quite severe pain and swelling especially at night, i just wondered if this is normal???
I have been give exercises to do by the hospital doctor, but these just make it swell even more, and the more it swells the more it hurts!!! I had the plaster removed about a week ago so i know it is early days but I am really hoping to get back to work and start 'living' again.
If anyone has any suggestions that might help I would be very grateful to hear from you.
yours desperately!!!!
Re: post lateral malleous fracture
Pain and swelling at night indicate inflammation. At this stage of an injury this shouldn't be happening. For this reason I would recommend you return to your Doctor. There may be more damage than just the fractures such as tendon or ligament damage that was not picked up or ignored because the fracture was thought worse. Soft tissue injuries are often more troublesome than a fracture.

hello Heidimills
Thank you for replying to my post. I will take your advice and visit my dr. You say that there may be tendon or ligament damage due to the swelling. Is there anything that can be done about that or is it something that I wll just have to put up with??? what are the implications for this, if this is the case? i wasnt really given any advice once the plaster was off that was it as far as the hospital was concerned. will let you know how i get on many thanks nikki32uk
