guys, can i do the credentialing of my grades here in the Philippines, then send it back via e-mail to the Alliance> thnx guys...:)
I think the credential can only be done in the alliance office in Canada.
I did the credentialing via mail but I registered in Ontario, here is my schedule.
March - April 2007
Sent application form for credentialing with all the documents required
(e.g. IELTS report, Academic report, birth certificate ....., details you can check on the alliance website)
During this period, I was in Hong Kong
It may take up to 22 weeks to complete the credentialing process
Oct 2007
I arrived at Toronto.
My credentialing was completed, it said that I did not have experience in working in Canada and I needed to go thru the PLAR in which I chose a self-study package for learning about the Regulation of Physiotherapy in Canada
Nov 2007
I completed the PLAR and applied for the PCE written exam in Jan 2008
Jan 2008
Written exam
Feb 2008
I received the report from PCE (written)
You may apply for the PCE (practical)
You can apply for the "Certificate for Provisional Practice" with which you can practise under a registered PT's supervision until you receive the result from 1st PCE (practical)
Jun 2008
PCE ( practical exam )
Jul 2008
I received the report for PCE (practical) and apply for the "Independent Certificate"
If you want to know more, you may e-mail to the alliance, their staff is very friendly.
Sanchill
Dear Sanchil
I am in the stage of signing in the PLAR agreement form which have to send within March 20th 2009.
I am quite confused in taking the option which they provided, i.e. doing the courses thru Thompson river University or by self-study, I think I need ur guidance. If I get ur email id or contact no. it could be more useful to decide the option asap. My mail id is [email protected]. I am in BC, Canada.
Thanks in advance
Kavi
hello, Kavi
I was not very interested in the options other than the self-study package because of the traveling time. If you choose the self-study package, you will receive
1) the "Context of Physiotherapy Practice in Canada"
2) an Assessment Tool ( actually, this is some MCs regarding to the above info.)
3) answer key to the Assessment Tool
4) a declaration form ( you need to sign the form declaring that you have completed the self-study package and then find a notary public to co-sign it which may cost ~$60-70 )
You need to
> study the information by yourself
> complete the assessment tool
> check the answers
> complete the declaration form with a notary public
> send the declaration form back to the Alliance.
You can search the notary public in your area by Google.
IF you want to know more about the content of "Context of Physiotherapy Practice in Canada", you can check it in my posts. Actually, my posts are about credentialing process and the PCE.
If you have any questions, you can reply the post or PM me. I check my e-mail everyday.
Sanchill ;)
Hi Sanchil
Thanks for your info. Really its ellobrating my hypothesis. I have shortage of my credits in the area od Pharmocology, Research, independent practice, Evidence based practice and multi-disciplinary practice. Do you think I can take these all by self study package. Pls give ur ideas...........
Thanks
Kavi
hi, Kavi
If I were you, I would take the pharmacology course in the school because I had difficulty to link the drugs and the related diseases together, I think it is better to study it with an instructor.
For Research and Evidence-based Practice, I am sorry that I cannot make any comments as I do not know how much you are familiar with these 2 areas. In Canada, people emphasize a lot on evidence-based practice, especially in the hospitals.
For the multidisciplinary/ independent practice questions, I THINK I ALSO LACKED CREDIT IN THIS AREA AND THAT'S WHY THE ALLIANCE WANTED ME TO GO THROUGH THE PLAR. I feel that taking the self-study package should be good enough
Anyway, these are my opinions only
Sanchill:rolleyes:
Ya Sanchil
I hope the same to get an instructor for all the credits areas, it could be worthful to gain the creditential points. But onething I feel its very expensive for taking all the credits @ Thompson university. Its cost about $ 2000...
Really I was in dilemma, now after discussing with you, I feel more satisfied.
I am very very thankful to make my decision cleared out Sanchil.
If you dont mine r u working? Where? Can I get ur contact info.....
Takecare
Kavi
Hi Sanchill,
Hope everything with you. I read your post in the forum and I noticed that when you finished your PLAR in Nov 2007 you're able to take the written exam in Jan 2008. We're you able to book the exam the quick eventhough they have early deadlines? Did you pay for late registration? Hope you can give me info coz Im in the same dilemma when I finished my PLAR. Thanks
Hi,Cristina
I finished the PLAR self-study package and found a notary public to sign the declaration form. Actually, I finished the self study in early November/ 2007 but it took me some time to book an appointment with a notary public.
The Alliance sent me a letter proofing that I finished the PLAR in late Nov /2007.
With this letter, you can still apply for the written exam even you miss the application deadline and also pre- register for the clinical component.
Sanchill
Hello Sanchill,
Thanks for the reply. It really give me info on what to do right after I finish my PLAR this September. Now, Im planning to take the PCE on November and hoping that like your situation, they will let me write the exam rather that waiting for the next date which is Jan of next year. Also, I also had the idea of pre-registering for the clinical part. Thank you again.
If you got some tips on preparing for the PCE (written) on what books to read and what topics to focus on, I will greatly appreciate it. You can also email me at [email protected]
Cristina:)

professional conduct, ethics and standards of practice
principles of physiotherapy management and administration (e.g., information systems, marketing, human and fiscal resource management, business management);
Do you guyz have an idea that Can I take this course through PLAR on a self study package and how much time would it take for me to complete just these two topics?
If anyone knows abt it I would appreciate your inputs
Thankx
Rohit
hi Rohit
I dont have any idea but i think it should be there so you can call ur credential officer and ask that u want to do self study so they will guide you.
Good day physios.I think sanchill was not explanatory enough as regards PLAR.U see ,context of physio practice in canada is different from the PLAR u have to do if u have shortcomings in ur programme. The Alliance made it clear that context of PT practice in canada is available on self study but PLAR is only available in some institutions across canada. The alliance just recommended Thomson rivers U to a physio friend to make up for the deficiencies in evidence based practice.I could see that the Alliance is not out to discourage anybody but to guild physios across the world thru securing a space in canadian health care in an organised manner.I am also waiting for my result.merry xmas.yelufem.
