How to get into Dance Physiotherapy
Hi all,
I am a third year physio student soon to qualify and am very interested in getting into the world of dance physiotherapy. I have tried researching ways into the sector, is the only way in through getting experience in sports physiotherapy first??
Thanks!

Maybe go volunteer at a local ballet school as a first thing. To be truely useful as a dance physio you need to watch a lot of dance and see what they do, how they do it and the demands on the body.
Post grad education in sports physio related courses is a must. Even better date a dancer :)
Re: How to get into Dance Physiotherapy
Was thinking that volunteer work was a good way to get more experience. As a student though getting that first foot in the door is sometimes hard. I have been dancing myself for a number of years so watching and learning sounds more fun than work! Will keep the advice in mind...Thankyou!

Hi,
it also depends on how flexible you are with travel.
Most dancers, that I know use private Sports Physiotherapists. It's only the really big dance schools (or travelling dance shows or musicals) that have their own Physio employed.
Try to contact local dance schools and ask which Physios they use, or contact a Sports Physician to see who he normally recommends. And then ask for a volunteer placement there.
Should you live in a big city, where musical shows are performed, you could try and contact their Physio, e.g. I know that the 'Lion King' show employs a whole group of Physios.
Good luck,
