Sports Physio/First Aid Bag
Hi everyone,
Im a new graduate Physio and have managed to get weekend physio work for a youth football team. Generally the team is quite new and i have been given free reign to organise things such as a kit bag to take with me to all games. Additional to the normal first aid things such as plasters, badages, antiseptic i have added instant ice/heat packs, deep heat spray, ice spray, zinc oxide tape. Is there anything anyone thinks that i have missed?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :D
Thanks
Sophie

A soft collar or two (two different sizes). Some aluminium finger splints and perhaps a wrist guard/splint, ankle support etc. These can be great temporary things to have to hand and also make a good overwrap on taping or bandaging.
I also have a spray can of water for cleaning, a few towels, a stethescope, some foam for a collar and cuff sling, some panadol and its variations, some general purpose massage cream, elastic bandages and some medical assessment forms to keep track of it all as it happens :)
In terms of my travelling kit I have much much more but that's another story.

hi sophie & physiobob,
good to know that you guys are also associated with sports. well, part-time I work for the local rugby team. rugby at times can be quite demanding, hence in addition to the items mentioned what I have in my kitty are:
gloves, band-aids, loads of absorbent gauze, adhesive tape, tweezers, scissors, a 20cc syringe for sterile saline irrigation, CPR mask, small torch/penlight, some oral rehydration salt, triangular bandage, a small plastic cup and a bottle of normal saline.
well all the best - sophie, as I understand you are just kicking off.
cheers,
thomas

Yep, the disposable gloves and a CPR mask are a must!! And plenty of them.

HI there,
great suggestions so far. also (and this depends entirely on pharmaceutical legislation and under what circumstances you'd allow it to be used) putting a salbutamol (ventolin) inhaler in the bag can be useful... the number of players who don't keep theirs close enough by the field is huge!
as mentioned, these things can get bigger than Ben Hurr but you'll figure out what you might like to add or take out as the season goes along.
good luck,
msk101 :)
