ACOPRA australian exam
hello!
i am a recently graduated third year UK physiotherapist and have emigration status through my partner for australia. we intend to emigrate in november 2006 and i hope to sit the march 2007 written exam, followed by the clinical exam.
my question is whether or not a newly graduated UK physiotherapist would be able to pass these exams? has anyone taken them recently and are they able to give an idea of the level of difficulty?
any other advice would be gratefully received.
thank you.
-
Hi,
I want to sit for the same exam in March 07. For the start you should apply for "Eligibility assessment". When this is completed ACOPRA will send you some references and studying guides plus a few samples of previous year’s exams. It gives you some idea of the exam and what sort of questions to expect.
Best of luck

ACOPRA australian exam
hi ark,
if you type in ACOPRA into google, it will all come up for you, most of the information is in PDF format so i will have difficulty linking you to it. it is all pretty straight forward, apart from knowing what is in the exams!!
if you are wanting to take the march 2007 exam, you will need to get things going pretty soon as the eligibility assessment needs to be in before october i think.
best of luck.

hi u031..
thanx 4 the links & information.
will get back to u later.

Acopra exam
Hi All,
I am very pleased, actually excited, to communicate that the pass rate for the last Acopra written exam (Sept 06) has been 70%.
Results were out today and I can say that this is the highest percentage reached in the history of this procedure! This exam was also the first one where the candidates were guided by our study group.
Just shortly, I inform you that this study group started as a protest against the unfair system of this procedure. Sept 05 exam, where only 14% of the candidates passed (compared to the average 50% of the previous exams) was the last drop for us. Now we try to help all the people wanting to be registered in Australia, so that they can make it at first attempt, while most of us had to attempt several times with high costs.
We have study material, Sept 05 papers (the only ones given, because of the protest, but protected by a disclaimer, so I can give them only to people enrolled in the exam....), old Acopra guidelines, University lectures, and lots of feedback and advice from us that have been through it (three times myself). We have a yahoo study group for the moment (you can post your email address here so I can send you the invitation to join the group). We are planning though to create our official association for overseas physios in Australia with a proper website.
I'll be pleased to let you join the group, as I said please send your email address.

Re: ACOPRA australian exam
Hi Emmanuela
I am a South African Physiotherapist and i am possibly thinking of emigrating to Australia-Perth. I had an interview with an Australian Emigration Consultant in South Africa and he assures me, he can get me a Sponsor in Australia and thus i could bypass the ACOPRA EXAMS. He said that the sponsor i would work for does not work for the state and would be private- The sponsor would take full responsibility employing me.
I would like to know if the above is true or would i have to do the exams?
By reading all the posts i can see this is a very lenthy procedure and i would already like to prepare myself for what lies ahead.
I would like to join the yahoo group you have set-up. My email address is
[email protected]
I would really appreciate it if you can get back to me.
Thanks in advance for all what you have done by setting up the site.

Re: ACOPRA australian exam
Hi,
that's partly true. There is NO way you can work in Perth or wherever in WA without being officially recognised and registered with the WA Board. So you have to do the exams.
BUT, you can work under limited registration for one year even without having enrolled the procedure of recognition ONLY in the States: NSW, SA and VIC. After that you are required to enrol the procedure or to leave the profession.
So, no matter you have a sponsor, in Perth you can't work till you finish the exam because WA Board doesn't give temporary limited registration.
You are welcome to join our group study, you'll find lots of useful info and you can talk to all the other overseas physios all over Australia (there are few Southafricans too, one in Perth) and ask for their advice. I have sent you the invitation to the Yahoo group through the email address you have provided.
See you in the forum and careful with migration agents.

About going to Australia???
Hello all!!
I am a overseas educated Physio (Colombia). At present I reside in Vancouver, Canada. I am Canadian Citzn
I almost finish the whole process in CAN but the Clinical exam. (june 2007)
The process here and in AUS are quite similar, credentialling, written and clinical exam.
Due to personal reasons I want to apply to Aus. I am familiar with the ACOPRA process in order to get a registration as a PT.
My idea is to apply as an Immigrant because I want to be there as soon as possible.
I want to join my family in Sydney but I donot want to wait until i get my registration there because that could last more than 18 months.
I want to know if some of you have the experience of applying as a PT under the skilled worker visa program and how long it takes to get the immigrant status??
I beleive is similar to Canada, first you get the landed Immigrant status and then you continue the process once you are there....
I just want to know how long that could take???
Besides....I am visiting Australia in May and I would like to participate a few days in a clinical exam study group if is possible. I am studying really hard here and I would like to experience the Australian method.
Thank you!
