Thigh Injury - Possible Torn Quad

Hi, 6 weeks ago I was playing football (soccer) and I twisted to kick the ball in mid-air. When I landed I had a very sharp pain in my hip joint. Two weeks later the pain moved down my leg into my thigh muscle (quite deep in).

Since then it has been extremely painful and I don't know what to do, please help me.

Re: Thigh Injury - Possible Torn Quad

We will need more information i reckon

Did you land on one leg or two, with the hip turned or straight compared to the body and if so which way - paint me a picture!!

Any excessive back pain at all with any movement or if you dig your fingers in anywhere?

Have you continued playing or have you rested completely? 6 weeks at your age should sort out most muscle pulls 70-80 percent better.

The answers to these questions are my food, so feed me.

You could try a few simple tests to help here

    a) lay on front and pull heel towards buttock, using you other heel around the shin to add pressure - any pain? Now push your shin into your heel as if trying to straighten the leg - any pain or pain increases?

    b) Lay on back and pull knee towards chest - any pain? hold this position and now push you knee accross the body - any pain or pain increases?

Only two very very very basic tests but might help to get the ball rolling.

Re: Thigh Injury - Possible Torn Quad

    Hi,

I landed on my right leg (painful leg), with my leg facing around 30 degrees to the left (twist your right foot 30 degrees to the left).

I would have rested for 4 weeks tomorrow.

    a) Very painful once heel is 90 degrees into the air
    b) No pain when knee is on chest but when I move it across my body it is excruciating.

    Thank you for your reply

Re: Thigh Injury - Possible Torn Quad

If the test on your front is painfull then this could mean your stretching the quad but you need to then contrat the quad in this position (as detailed) to see if the pain increases. If so i would suspect quad.

The test on your back rasises suspicions around the hip joint. To further this lay falt on your back and get a friend to turn your whole leg inwards as far as they can using the knee and shin area to provide the leverage. If you get pain up in your groin or deeep into the thigh then this is a strong indicator you've aggrevated your hip joint during your acrobatics.

Either way i think that at six weeks + down the line i would see your Doc and see what he suggests - i would think a physio assessment would be a sound idea.

    Hang in there

    Please keep us updated.
