hello, lukefernandes
I bought the O'sullivan NPTE for my Jan 2008 written exam
This book provides summaries of different aspects of physiotherapy, sample questions + explanations and a CD-ROM with 3 sample tests.
I did feel the summaries are very useful, it is really good for the revision at the night before PCE exam. I tried the sample tests but the are really very difficult to me and thats y I gave up to do them. Haha....
The NPTE question style is different from PCE's. In fact, you can relate the sample questions provided by the Alliance. For PCE, you may be given a scenario and you need to answer some questions related to it. For NPTE( as I see in the O'sullivan book), the questions are not related to each other.
I suggest you to have a look at the sample questions in the orientation resources and try to apply each question to different joints, diseases and practices.
I know that there is a new version of candidate handbook 2009 but I don't know if there is any change to the exam syllabus. BTW, please check every item on the lists because I found some "RARE" questions in the PCE ( which scared my pants off ) but they were listed on the EXAMINATION BLUEPRINT!!!
For those questions related to local practice, you can read the " Context of Physiotherapy Practice in Canada" if you went through the PLAR
Magee is good but there are too many tests, just study the common tests for each joint
GOOD LUCK!!:)

Hi, mitch
My main references for PCE exam are
1) O'sullivan NPTE study guide ( I bought it online )
2) Magee Orthopaedic Assessment
3) Kisner and Colby for exercises and manual therapy guidelines
4) The lecture notes from my university
3) clinical oriented anatomy by Moore
Generally speaking, I only use the NPTE study guide, lecture notes and the textbooks I already had. There are so many SUGGESTED READINGS but it is not possible to buy all of them.
Sanchill:)
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and studying to take the PCE written exam May 2009. Is there an online study group on now?
Kindly forward any info on I can join. Be interesting. Never had an online study group before
Thanks:)
I got the "Context of Physiotherapy Practice in Canada" from the alliance
Beacuse I did not have experience working in Canada before I immigrated , the alliance sent this information to me for self study before I was allowed to register the written exam. It cost ~ $125
"Context of Physiotherapy Practice in Canada" included the following items
Payment of Physical Therapy services
How Physical Therapists are paid
How Canadian Health Care System work
Changes to the Health Care System
Evolution of health care and physiotherapy in Canada
Provincial Health Care systems
History of physiotherapy in Canada
Organization of Physiotherapy Profession in Canada
Physiothrapy Education in Canada
ICIDH/ICF and client-centred care
ethical practice
documentation/ SOAP notes
physiotherapy workload measure
issues related to privacy
it is very useful when you register and work , esp the SOAP notes as I do not use this charting format in Hong Kong
