A cortisone treatment does sound a bit of a shot in the dark. If the surgeon can justify what the problem is and why the cortisone injection should help (ie localised inflammation) then all well and fine.
Two things come to mind: You could have some adhesions (scarring) from the surgery that could be limiting the full range of extension at the wrist/hand. A manipulative physiotherapist may be able to help you with this.
If it is due to ligamentous laxity then exercises to strengthen the muscles of the wrist and hand may be the best option. This takes a long time to get a result (several months) however. The theory is that by strengthenting the wriist and hand in the not only do the muscles get stronger but the ligamentous and tendinous tissue also build up and hopefully tighten things up.

go visit a physical therapy they know what's best for you. and do exercise everyday this will help you minimize the pain. eat nutritious food. low sodium diet and low fat.
