Why would the posistion of my fist determine whether my elbow clicks or not?
Hey guys
I have a clicking elbow right side only. I noticed it i while ago when doing some bicep curls with weights. I dont do them or pull ups etc, because i feel it irritates it the more it clicks. It also clicks when i drink my tea. (cup to mouth):(
Any way Ive noticed through experimentation, that if turn my hand/fist 90degrees from the posistion it was in when it clicked, and then repeat the flexion of my arm it does NOT click.
For example when standing up arms by my side and hand/fist facing forward and then flexing my arm, the elbow will click. But if turn my hand/fist so it is facing my body and then flex my arm it does NOT click.
Any thoughts or a reason why this happens,
thanks
Re: Why would the posistion of my fist determine whether my elbow clicks or not?
Hi there,
The reason it happens is because there are three major muscles involved in flexing your elbow and the positon of your hand affects which one of those muscles works the most.
The muscles are as follows: biceps brachii (isolated by hand facing up/preacher curl), brachioradiallis (isolated by hand facing the body/ hammer curls) and brachialis (isolated by hand facing down).
the first thing to do would be to stretch the biceps brachii to see if that helps. you can do this by streching out your arm behind you and placing your hand face up on a table (almost as if you were reaching back to recieve a baton in relay). In this postition step forward and bend knees at the same time, keeping your hand on the table, until you can feel a mild to moderate stretch. hold for 30-90 seconds. Do 3 of these, 3 times a day.
oh and stretch off your triceps as well.
see if that helps, if not getting better in 14 days or so. repost.
good luck

thanks for the reply. so ill start doing that stretch 2night as much as possible and ill see if it makes a difference in a few weeks.
But why when this muscle is being worked to flex the arm would it make my elbow click.??
thanks
