hi, is there any specification of ultrasound intensities that can be use to treat acute, sub acute and chronic state of lesion on different types of tissues such as bone/tendon/ligament?
refer textbook of ELECTROTHERAPY:EVIDENCE APPROACH by John Law....
Depth of the lesion to be treated:
- Superficial (up to 2cm) 3MHz Head
- Deep (2-5/6cm) 1Mhz Head
Pulse Ratio:
- Acute - Pulse 1:4 (20%)
- Sub Acute - Pulse 1:4/3/2/1 (20%,25%,33%,50%)
- Chronic - Pulse 1:2/1 (33%,50%)
Intensity required
- Acute - 0.1 - 0.3 W/cm2
- Sub Acute - 0.2 - 0.5 W/cm2
- Chronic - 0.3 - 0.8 W/cm2
Area to be treated in relation to the head size: e.g. 1 x, 2x, 3x etc.
Ultrasound treatment principle - 1 mins worth of U/S per treatment head area. Therefore longer if Pulse and longer for Larger Treatment Areas
Treatment time = 1 x (no of times treatment head fits onto the tissue to treat) x (pulse ratio)
