    Re: ultrasound treatment dosage

Depth of the lesion to be treated:

    • Superficial (up to 2cm) 3MHz Head
    • Deep (2-5/6cm) 1Mhz Head

    Pulse Ratio:

    • Acute - Pulse 1:4 (20%)
    • Sub Acute - Pulse 1:4/3/2/1 (20%,25%,33%,50%)
    • Chronic - Pulse 1:2/1 (33%,50%)

    Intensity required

    • Acute - 0.1 - 0.3 W/cm2
    • Sub Acute - 0.2 - 0.5 W/cm2
    • Chronic - 0.3 - 0.8 W/cm2

Area to be treated in relation to the head size: e.g. 1 x, 2x, 3x etc.

Ultrasound treatment principle - 1 mins worth of U/S per treatment head area. Therefore longer if Pulse and longer for Larger Treatment Areas
Treatment time = 1 x (no of times treatment head fits onto the tissue to treat) x (pulse ratio)

This guideline was taken from data provided by Professor Tim Watson.
