cervical spondylosis....need help here
My mother was having cervical
spondylosis at the level of C3, 4, 5 and 6 for past 4 years, and I am still a student taking diploma in physiotherapy. For the past one week, my mother having a severe recurrent of the symptoms, and having difficulties in sleeping. She experiences severe numbness and shooting pain across all four limbs and chill over the chest. The symptoms commence only when she is lying down on the bed regardless the position. No symptoms produced during the day when she is sitting or walking around. Yesterday I gave her 20 minutes of portable traction at home and she felt bit relief when she is lying down. So shall I continue to give her the traction once a day until her next medical check up on Monday or wait for the next doctor’s impression? Her last
MRI was on August 2011 I am still a student, not sure what I am doing is really working…need help here

Hi
Read your post re your mum's C/S problems. You mention that the symptoms get worse when she lies down. Perhaps you could consider maybe trying to help her sleep on a sofa instead, just temporarilly. I find this can really help shift the aches etc so they don't set in like they do with repetitive habits like always sleeping in same bed in same position. A memory foam topper for mattress, and a proper cervical pillow can also help ease problems, and check to make sure she doesn't have a cold draught (an open window or such) playing on her neck all night.
