Wearing cast before pseudarthrosis surgery
Hello everyone
I'm Filipe, and I'm a 15 years old judoka, anxious to get back to practice.
So, I broke my right scaphoid 5/6 years ago, whenI still practiced hockey.
I joined judo, and after a unsuccessfull technique from my partner the pain came again. After this incident it took me two months to go see a doctor.
I was diagnosed with pseudarthrosis of the scaphoid. Then they casted my arm to "protect". Thanks to this, I can't do any physical activity, since the sweat can cause fungus and other problems.
My question is if this cast is really necessary. I must do exercise to don't lose my physical form (of course, I won't use my wrist).
Thanks for all answers
Re: Wearing cast before pseudarthrosis surgery
A non-union of a past fractured scaphoid is a very serious problem. You should see a hand specialist to get an exact answer into the state of that old fracture, if there was union or not. If not there may be other surgical options suffice to say that Judo and a fractured scaphoid do not mix. Read more on
Pseudarthrosis.
Time to try some cross training while you wait.
Re: Wearing cast before pseudarthrosis surgery
Thanks for the answer.
My doctor said it was really a pseudarthrosis, there's no other solution unless the surgery.
My question was if the cast is really necessary, because I shouldn't swet. So, i can't even do physical preparation or musculation...
