The Hugo Lloris concussion incident
I just read an extremely interesting article by a Secret Football Physio, pretty much stressing how bad the handling of the collision that a goalkeeper.
Here is an extract from it;
"After spending millions of pounds on players in the summer, Tottenham Hotspur can now make some budget cuts by getting rid of their medical staff. This is because, apparently, their manager is now qualified to make medical decisions.
After Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Everton, Andre Villas-Boas said that it was his call whether a player continues to play after sustaining a head injury. I’m sorry, I thought that was the role of the medical staff"
If you want to read the rest - You'l have to go on The Secret Footballers website - Medics should head the decision making, not managers | The Secret Footballer
I guess he is a pro and understands the procedure when such an incident happens
Let me know what you think on the article
Cheers
Re: The Hugo Lloris concussion incident
All I can say is that when I was working on the sports fields in Australia there was an official checklist of questions to ask a player after a knock like that to decide if they are thinking clearly or if they are suffering from a concussion. This included the usual questions like what is their name, the year, whose the prime minster, maybe a little maths. Though it is debatable if footballers could answer some of those questions even when uninjured you are supposed to administer the test to the team off the field to check what their normal level of response would be so you have something to compare it to.
Re: The Hugo Lloris concussion incident
I think the rule should be that if a player is knocked out he is brought off straight away regardless of how he feels when he comes round.
Having said that, he did come round and I am sure the spurs staff would have asked all the correct questions such as the Maddox questions and given a good assessment which Lloris obviously passed, I don't think the staff would have played him if he wasn't sure what day it was and was hallucinating. Isn't the point of having these questions / questionnaires so people can pass or fail them, and if they pass, why shouldn't they play?
