Knee 'popping' at random angles after MCL injury
Hi guys,
I injured my knee last year, literally a year ago now playing football (soccer) in a tackle. Immediately went to the hospital as I could not put any weight on it and was in a lot of pain. they diagnosed it as MCL injury and perhaps meniscus damage as well.
A year on and every now and then it 'pops' when I bend it at certain angles or if I come down and land on that leg after jumping. It feels almost like my ligament is in the wrong place and it has to go over something to complete the range if motion. It hurts for around 5 minutes and then its fine.
Ideally I would like to go back playing football. I have started my stretches again and will be attending private physio sessions as the NHS would only give me 2 sessions before they sent me on my way.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience? :)

Hello,
Popping sound with difficulty in standing or walking seems to ACL injury along with meniscal and MCL injury. Its common in football player. Just try to check with ortho/ sports injury center. As treatment plan changes if you have ACL injury too.

Hi Gupta, thanks for the reply. I don’t really struggle or get pain when walking. It’s only painful when it pops, when it pops the pain is all along the inside of my knee. It’s hard to explain the feeling, it’s like a rubber band in my knee is caught on something and it gets to a certain point where it pops over it.
I’ll 100% go see my physio this week and see if he can maybe tell me and go from there!

Yes, that sounds good. Physio can also tell you whether there is ACL injury or not. You need proper rehabilitation to resume your sport activity. Hope you will get better soon. Let me know if you need any help.
