Aerobic exercise and progressive resistance training have different biological effects on the control of diabetes, muscle tissue and cardiovascular system so I would recommend patient adopt a programme that includes both. However while exercise is an effective method of achieving glycaemic control as it can build muscle mass, reduce fat mass, reduce insulin resistance and improve vessel health, advice should take a broad view that includes, dietary, lifestyle, and self care (such as lower limb care)in order to achieve optimal health.
