    Can anyone do massage?

    Taping
Recently, almost completely out of the blue, my wife got a really stiff neck that caused discomfort for several days. She made a physio appointment but couldn't be seen for several days so I (completely untrained, and not knowing what I was doing) tried to do some massage to help.

The first time I think the benefits were negligible, but the second time - I don't know what I did - but she felt instant benefits and was feeling so much better.

    My questions are:

    1) given that I don't really know what I'm doing (other than rubbing knotty bits!), might I risk doing any harm? Am I better just leaving it to an expert?

    2) if I wanted to learn just some basics that would enable me to help if this sort of thing recurred, where would be a good place to start?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give.

    Re: Can anyone do massage?

Hi there, please do not do any thing that can give a relief for few hours, because some time massaging can remove the pain but it may cause dislocation, so better consult a physiotherapist near by you, there are many books on internet that can help but without a practical knowledge this cannot help.

    Re: Can anyone do massage?

OK, thank you for this. She is actually feeling much better now, but has booked an appointment with a chartered physio who has treated her before just as an additional measure.

Out of interest, can an amateur learn some basics which would help in such a situation or does it require many years of study regardless?

No it is not like that, but it is hard to understand that where to massage and hard to get an idea by just reading, its more of a practical practice that can make you perfectionist. I would rather suggest you to learn few exercises as that can help you and your loved ones.
