Hello,
I suffered a weber c fracture of my distal fibula on the 9th december 2011, had an open reduction and internal fixation of the left ankle fracture, they strongly advised the surgury given my profession. I believe I have one metal slide and screws either side of the ankle. The fracture is above my ankle bone. The cast was taken off on the 20th jan 2012 having been on for the past 6 weeks and I was told to put full weight on my ankle. I am a professional dancer so this is completely devestating for me and I just want to get back on my feet as soon as I physically can.
Ive had one physiotherapy appointment so far (7 weeks post op now) and I wasn't sure if it was as thorough as it should have been... granted my ankle is still very stiff and sore but the session consisted merely of a few mild ankle manipulations so I am just wondering what programme of physiotherapy or treatment is neccessary for someone like me (dancer) to be able to dance as soon as possible given the injury I've had? ultimately, what is the overwiew and normal process of treatment I should be going through, how many sessions a week, for how long, exercises performed by therapists and given to me to do at home? would early sessions given the fact that I still have swelling and limited ankle movement therefore mean the therapy will be quite minimal? so far the exercises I have been given are flexing/inversion as often as I can. I'm just worried I'm not where I should be and Just want to know I what treatment I should be having etc.
please feel free to leave any comments or send me a message!!
many thanks :-)
