electric wheelchairs - acute stroke management

Our rehab unit is looking for funding to purchase some electric wheelchairs to use with acute strokes. Our feeling is that it will be a huge bennifit to the patients; early independance, neglect, perception and self esteem. We haven't been able to find any research on this. Has anybody have any experience or research on this?
