    Yes it was a question from a student, but not studying for an exam! The lecture notes keep on talking about an extensor tone but doesn't exactly explain what it is!

    Makes a lot more sense now!

    Possibly also worth thinking about extensor pattern effect on balance and base of support. if the patient's now off balance due to new extensor pattern then he wont' want to weight bear on his extensor leg therefore will weight bear on it for much less time, hence a shorter step. hope that's of help.
