5'8"--250lb--51 yr. Female--I had a full replacement done last August. It went well and I got up and around fairly quickly and was told I was doing great. During the Holidays I was busy with family and preparations & occasionally hit the Malls, did Costco, Wall Mart and went to a pumpkin patch. The point is I did all this over a 1-2 month time and about Mid-Nov I started experiencing extreme pain in mid-inside calf where screws had been during surgery. Was told I overused it and I ended up back on crutches and told to wear better shoes and that I probably had shin splints. I had been just wearing slip on flats so as not to have to bend over or tie shoes..never thought! Got better shoes and insert!
Doc finally did x-ray on shins..of course nothing showed. After use of crutches for a couple weeks it got some what better but continues to flame up quit often. Doc recently did Wikipedia reference-linkMRI (almost 9 months after surgery)due to continued compaints of pain, even while not standing or walking. MRI showed long white line from mid-calf down to ankle. Doc said "He had never seen this before!" Never...I asked?
Anyway...told to stay off it & use cruthes again He said some thing about edema...tibia & perio---something and come back in 6 wks and do some walking in a pool & phys therapy. Does anyone know any more??? Helpful ideas?? I hope it goes away soon...I have gained weight during all this inactivity which I know is not good for many reasons and anxious to get active!!
