Brief Medical History Overview
ACL retear older athlete
Are the surgeons correct in ruling out an ACL reconstruction in my case?
I am looking for a procedure that can help me get back into action.
I am a 55 year old teacher/coach who you until recently still competed in master's age group track & field (shot & discus).
I have retorn my ACL and the orthopods are not giving me much hope.
They have ruled out another ACL reconstruction because of the degeneration (arthritis & no medial miniscus). They suggest waiting a few years for a knee replacement which is fine with me as I don't want that much down time and such an evasive procedure at this stage in life.
I have had a series of Synvisc injections.
I schlepped around wearing a DonJoy brace while coaching this season.
I am 6 ft 3 in and 205 lbs and in well above average condition for age 55.
Is there an alternative surgical procedure that will bridge the gap until a knee replacement is done.
Thanks
