    Brief Medical History Overview

Unhappy Pain at extension of elbow

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Overview:
I'm an amateur cheerleader in NZ, I practice stunting with my school cheer group often 1-2 times a week, and my outside of school cheer group about 1-2 times every school term.
Basically I'm getting a repetitive pain that transfers from elbow to elbow, depending how the flyer lands out of the stunt called a cradle, and where most of her weight is taken. I am the person at the very back and I hold her ankles to push her up, release then hold my arms straight up toward her and when she impacts on me I bend with her and pop back up.
It doesn't allow me to post a URL so if you google or youtube 'Cheerleading Cradle' You understand, I am in the position of the very back person called "back spot".

    Description:
-I'm dealing with a not so advanced flyer and she sometimes lands funny, and it feels like someone's punched me right at the base of my bicep, and the ligaments that connect my humerus to my radius & ulna are very sore.
-It's really hard to get into full extension, the pain is strong especially through the bicep.
    -It feels very tight.
    -There is no swelling
-The pain lasts for 2-3 days but it is reoccurring as I have to keep practicing.

So I'm looking for: Whether I should be icing or heating, resting or doing exercises, and if exercises could you refer some to me? Thank you to anyone who replies.

    Aircast Airselect Short Boot
    Hi pyralless

It is a bit risky trying to diagnose the problem over the net and it really needs both a full history being taken and a proper physical examination of the elbow and arm. Therefore I wouldn't be game to give you exercises as they may do you no good if I get the problem wrong

Possibly you have developed some type of insertion injury of the biceps or brachialis tendons - that may account for the pain on suddenly taking the weight, the pain on full extension of the elbow, the tightness of the muscle and the tenderness close to the radioulnar joint.

Why don't you go to a good sports physio in your area and get it properly looked at. You may be eligible for ACC particular if there was an incident at your sport - in which case in won't cost you that much. It would be good to get specific, accurate advice on how to manage it.
