    Brief Medical History Overview

    Very tight thigh muscle?

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi,

I'm recovering from hip bursitis and, after a course of diclofenac, the inflammation has really gone down and my hip does not hurt with general walking. But lately I have noticed is that my 'iliotibial band' (muscle running down the outside of the thigh between the hip and knee) seems very tight, particularly after any distance of walking. I've also had very painful tense muscles in my buttock and lower back.
I have been limping a lot, with the bursitis, which I think has tensed all of the muscles in that leg - I assume this didn't help! I have tried stretches and self-massage and a pilates dvd for stretching - is this a good idea?

I'd like to make sure I'm donig the right thing as I assume that the two are related and, if the muscle remains this tight, the bursitis will come back.

    Any advice really is appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Sian

    Re: Very tight thigh muscle?

    hello

you have not provided enough information that since how long you were suffering from bursistis and how much time it took to recover, during that period have you taken bed rest or continuing your daily activities...

Inspite of all, i would suggest do slight stretching exercise of all hip and back muscles (Iliopsoas, hamstring, quadriceps, glutii, abductors, adducdors, erector spinae, abdominals etc) but preferably in guidance of expert along with do light strenghtening exercise too ... not go for massage...

Hope for you get some help..

    Re: Very tight thigh muscle?

Usually when you change the way you walk from a limp or cast or even different heeled shoes, you use different muscles which you may not have used before. This can result in soreness in your leg areas or tightness. After a couple weeks, you should be OK.

    Hello

I agree that altered gait affects the whole biomechanics of the body but to alleviate this problem, there's need to do some exercise depending on what all muscles, tissue get affected...
