Brief Medical History Overview
Post op knee swelling:
Hello, would appreciate your opinions about this. I'll try to be brief
Ruptured my ACL 12 years ago. MCL and medial cartilage damage too. No surgery just physio and got back to a good level of fitness with only occasional niggles. Last year it finally cracked!
November '09 had medial and lateral partial meniscectomies. Swelling never really completely subsided and around March this year the surgeon drained about 20ml from the knee then gave me an injection. This seemed to help for a while.
Meanwhile he had also agreed to do a hamstring ACL reconstruction. Got this in May and I've worked hard at rehab. The swelling steadily reduced but once again has stalled somewhat.
I'm back running and structurally my knee feels great. Short intense workouts have no ill effect but i've recently upped my long runs and get a bit more fluid for a day or so afterwards. Never get any pain from exercise but tenderness at the extremes of range of motion, particulrly on flexion around the lower lateral side.
Should say I'm not being actively followed up by physio and next due to see the surgeon in February.
Is it abnormal to still have effusion 7 months post ACL and 12 months post meniscectomies? Any other thoughts? Do i just need to man up and get on with it?
Thanks
PS I'm 381/2
