    Brief Medical History Overview

    Acetabullum fracture

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Greetings, This is my first post here so please be patient with me.
On Dec. 05/2010 I had an ATV accident and as a result of the impact--I was thrown from the machine and landed fully on my LH side. I was diagnosed with an "undisplaced comminuted fracturing of the acetabulum" by an Ortho doctor after a CT scan. The initial xrays were negative and my GP doctor told me I had eggshell like fractures of the acetabulum. I spent the first month basically in a wheelchair/crutches and the 2nd month on crutches. It is now the 3rd month and the Ortho doctor as me slated for a set of full Xrays on March 8th/2011. I am about to start at a private Physio clinic for the pain and range issues.
    My questions are....
What are long term issues? Deformity ? range of ability, back to work... What should I ask/expect of my Physiotherapist?
I am able to put some weight on the LH side now and my range has improved but my balance is off and I am experiencing pain at times just below the tailbone and pubic bone area. Also I have impinging pain on the inside thigh. I am tired easily compared to my old self.
Sorry for the long post, I hope that someone can make sense of my ramblings, I am just a bit scared of what the future may hold in regards to this injury. Any thoughts/advice/stories would be appreciated.
    mainstation.

    Re: Acetabullum fracture

"undisplaced...eggshell like fractures" seems to me when completely healed should be no problem as far as the integrity of the joint itself; once given the green light by your physicians that it is stable, then i wouldn't concern yourself about it going to pieces on you during activity; your PT will address rom, strength, balance and return to activity so long term i would hope for no deformed gait pattern, nearly full rom and once the hip is solid, i don't see why you couldn't go back to heavy labor or impact activities - i could be wrong though

    Re: Acetabullum fracture

I have discomfort and pain. I have stopped all of my pool activity and only am doing some basic leg opening exercise for ROM. I do have pain in the LH glute, could this be a pinched nerve? Also it feels like my hip and leg are just "hanging off" the pelvis. I am hoping that this is just my lack of glute and femoral muscles due to inactivity. It feels ok in the am. then gets more sore as the day goes on. I still have some pain in the inner thigh, just below the groin, but if I push on my inner thigh just right, it helps with the pain...Is this my femoral ligament?
Sorry, I am about 2 weeks away from my Ortho appt. and am getting nervous....plus my employer is wondering if I am coming back to work.. and somedays so am I ?
Is it common with an injury like this to get a bit depressed, because I am .

I think anyone who goes from fully active and painfree to very limited and painful would feel frustrated and concerned; my general advice is to listen to your healthcare team and push yourself to limits that you feel are safe and that are ok'd by them. It is statistically very important to get on the road to recovery as quickly as possible as the longer people spend off work from injury, the less likely they are of returning (can't find reference at the moment); find coping techniques for pain to allow you to progress your rehab; make short term, achievable, highly desirable goals for yourself; draw strength and encouragement from people you respect; good luck!
