How exactly did you do the injury (eg. fell on it, bent wrist back or forwards, lifting something heavy etc.) - the more detail the better. do you have any ongoing redness/heat from the area even if there's no swelling?. can you move your thumb fully?, can you pinch your thumb and middle finger together tightly?

Often a scaphoid fracture is a result of falling onto an outstretched arm/hand and they do not always appear on x-ray for up to 10 days. the general rule is to cast it for 10 days and then re-x-ray... this is because when you break a bone it has to degenerate a little bit before regenerating so we can see the break when it's started to degenerate at the break line.

do you have acute or sharp pain in the "anatomical snuff box".(..google a pic of this because it's hard to describe) which is the groove between tendons that shows up at your wrist at the base of the thumb when you lift your thumb back and out. the scaphoid lives directly in here.

would be good to see a physio if you can't get sense out of the doctors!
