    MSc Interview

    Hi guys!

I'm having my first interview for the MSc physio pre-registration program next week, and I'm SO nervous!!!! Can anyone tell me from past experience the format of the interviews and what they are really intetested in knowing. For example are they more concerned in knowing your motivation to do the course, personality type or your knowledge on anatomy and physiology etc.....??

Any andvice will be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks a bunch

    Re: MSc Interview

    Hi Laura,

I'm just about to finish the MSc programme in October so know what you're going through!

For my interview I was asked things like why I wanted to do it, how my previous degree fits in and what sorts of things I think from that are relevant to physio (I did sport science)....I also got asked about my work experience, the types of things I saw....I think I also had to give examples of when I've used my initiative, communicated with people well (it was over 2 years ago so can't really remember!), plus I got asked things like how I will manage to fit the huge amount of work in (thats a big one as the course is so massive in such a small period of time)- i.e. prioritisation, organisation etc...

I was also working in business at the time so had lots of examples of using team work, organisation, prioritisation, communication etc so if you have any past work experience just use that (even if it seems remote to physio!)

In actual fact it was more of a chat than a strict interview, I did get told later on that they had pretty much decided who they were taking based on the application forms and the interview's were to check we were normal enough people! But of course that might not be the case everywhere!

They definitley won't ask about specifics like anatomy and physiology- for a lot of people they might have done thier degrees years ago so will expect people to be a bit rusty! They might ask you about your previous dissertation (some people in my class got asked that), one poor girl got asked how she would critically evaluate a journal (that was the worst question anyone got!) so it varies a bit. Oh another thing is be prepared to answer questions like "considering the job prospects for new physios are so bad why do you want to do the job etc..."

I think with the MSc programmes they know you will have the knowledge for it as you have a degree already, its more about showing your dedication to the course, that you are aware of the volume of work (it's huge, trust me!), you have a really good idea what the job involves, know about the health service (probably basic stuff like KSF, maybe clinical governance) and are prepared to put the work in.

I hope that helps? PM me if you like for more info

No problem, just be confident and show them how much you want to be a physio and they're bound to let you in!

    Re: MSc Interview

Thank you !!! I'm so so so happy!!!!

Well I was accepted to Glasgow Caledonian Uni, but I'm still waiting to hear from Manchester Metropolitan uni, Robert Gordon in Aberdeen and Southhampton. If I get accepted to more than one its going to be difficult to decide as I'm not from the UK and have never been to any of those places. Where are you studying? If you know of or have heard any positive or negative things about any of the unis I mentioned let me know!!

    Re: MSc Interview

    Hi Oscar.

I really appreciate you posting this many years ago!!! But I'm hoping it will help me with my interviews...

Do you have any further advice for somebody like me:

BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science
Fitness professional - various fitness qualifications
    Work with spinal injury charity
    Really want to study physiotherapy!

I've applied to 6 universities and have an interview next week and one later this month. Bham & Kings.

Where did you study and how are you getting on with your career now?

    Karsh
