    registration in victoria

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
i am wondering if anyone knows about the registration cycle in victoria.
i am arriving in Melbourne in November so would hope to have confirmed my registration by october however the website for the board states that the registration cycle runs from January til December. Does this then mean that i would have to apply for registration then apply for renewal again in January?

Also is it possible to confirm insurance details after obtaining registration? I would not intend to obtain insurance until i had confirmation of a job offer.

    any help appreciated!
    Laura

    Dear Laura

The Physiotherapists Registration Board of Victoria will cease to exist on 1 July 2010. From that date, physiotherpaists in Victoria will be registered with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia. www.physiotherapyboard.gov.au

thanks for the advice, i was aware of this but not sure (as many are) how it will affect me yet. Will this system then allow for free movement to practice between states? any idea of the time scales to process registration?
from the website fees will not be announced until june.

    Dear Laura

It is currently possible for physiotherapists to practice between states - but registration is required in each state of practice. Under the national registration and accreditation scheme, a physiotherapist will not need to have registration in each state of practice because registration will be for Australia. However, on 1 July 2010, only the states and territories where the national law has passed through parliament will be covered - details of the status of each state and territory are available on the national board website.

You would have to contact the national board to ask about processing times and fees - the APC deals with assessment only, not registration.
