Re: Any Indian physio here, who got NZ registration? Some PR queries?

    Hi guys,

Its true that NZ Physio board doesn't recognise Physio qualification from India. So one has to study there or in Aus or UK before applying for registration coz there are good chances that the application will be denied. Anyone out there who has studied in India & applied for reg recently & got it?

Re: Any Indian physio here, who got NZ registration? Some PR queries?

    Hi All
I am an indian physio, passed out last year from my graduation and currently doing my masters in sports physiotherapy in UK. My course finishes in August this year and I want to go to NZ for job having already seen the job market for indian physios in UK . I do not have any work experience as I have moved to UK soon after completing my bachelors and m still doing my masters.
Can anybody suggest me as to how and when should I apply for registration with NZ board of physiotherapy and about the competencies stuff?
As a course of doing my masters I am having level 1&2 certificates in emergency aid and trauma management (UK), and will be having 100 hours of clinical placement.
can anyone suggest how likely I am to get the registration in NZ?
sorry about being spoon fed but I literally require the guidence from A to Z because I don't have anybody there to help me. Thanking you all in anticipation. Please please either reply here or you can also mail me at [email protected]

    waiting the responses

Re: Any Indian physio here, who got NZ registration? Some PR queries?

    Hi,
you find all information you need on the Physioboard's website:
The Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand > Registration - Overseas Qualified Physiotherapists
There are even application guideline notes: http://www.physioboard.org.nz/docs/A...March_2011.pdf

However, I do not believe that the job situation here is any better than in England, especially if you have no work experience.

    Good luck,
    Fyzzio

Thanks a lot for the reply.., I have looked at the website which suggests at least that I can get registration. Can you please do me a favor by telling that in order to show the competencies, what documents or transcripts do I need to show as an evidence. Thanks in advance

    Hi,
sorry, I wouldn't have a clue, as I used a lot of the documents from my PDR - which you won't have as you have never worked.
    Good luck,
    Fyzzio

Re: Any Indian physio here, who got NZ registration? Some PR queries?

    Hi,
Im currently pursuing my Post Graduate Diploma in Orthopedic Physiotherapy at Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand.
I had initially planned post studies to work for a year in New Zealand as a physio to gain more experience. But I learned through friends, seniors and staff working as a physio isn’t as easy as I thought. The process of acquiring the licence can take around 2(more or less) years for Indian students and the board can dismiss our application. There is no guarantee about getting the registration. Also during this time we cannot work as physios. The reason behind this is the physio undergraduate studies in India are not recognized here and they individually assess our credentials. If we lack any as compared to the undergraduate studies here, we have to prove them by documents which I heard is a difficult task. Post that, they may ask us to take certain Tests to further prove certain credentials. There isn’t any bridging or transitional course available for this and many physio applicants were asked to do the undergraduate course here. Earlier Indians weren’t allowed to apply for registration. I have heard rumours that there is still bias. They look at credentials like Time management, autonomous practise ( i.e ruling out red flags), work experience in ortho, cardio, neuro, work experience as a registered physio, undergraduate syllabus (most imporatant), ielts (pls see FAQs on the nz physio board links that others have shared)

I have heard some physios who acquired registration in Australia and then come to NZ and acquired registeration. While I have also heard some experienced physios who have done their Phd and Post doc acquire registeration after 2 yrs.

To sum it up, its not a very easy route.

Re: Any Indian physio here, who got NZ registration? Some PR queries?

    Hi,
I might be able to give some information. I have a friend who used cross-credits (although not from India).
For AUT for example, you can apply to have credits transferred. My friend was allowed 'skipping' the first semester, which are core papers.
So, if accepted, you can start in Semester 2 of year one (study 3 1/2 years instead of 4). I think that's the maximum they permit.
Recognition of Prior Learning & Cross Credits - AUT

    Best to enquire directly.

    Cheers,
    Fyzzio

Re: Any Indian physio here, who got NZ registration? Some PR queries?

    Hi everyone,
I have completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Physiotherapy (Endorsed in Sports) last year at the University of Otago.
I am in process of applying for registration with the NZ PhysioBoard (PBNZ).
As far as past opinions I have received, registration for Indian physios is not easy as they really scrutinize our undergraduate syllabus of physiotherapy from India. I would really appreciate responses from any Indian physios out there who have procured registration with PBNZ successfully.
The FAQs on the PBNZ website is helpful to read.
There is no fixed timeframe as to registration procurement. The application process is definitely Not Easy and the compilation of all evidence etc. will definitely take at least more than a month, including reflective statements, etc.

As far as what I can see, it is essential that we put forth a Strong Case in our application to PBNZ for registration.

Competencies which can pose great challenges to our application based on our undergrad syllabus include Autonomous Practice.

It would be harrowing to receive a rejection from PBNZ and a suggestion to pursue undergrad all over again from a country which NZ recognizes sufficiently similar to their system can be really, in my opinion, a waste of time and undermining.

However, this possibility does not deter me from applying.

I will update as to how it goes if and when I can.

PLEASE do reply with your suggestions, and especially if there is any Indian physio (who completed BPT from India) out there who has procured registration with the NZ physio board, please share your suggestions and experience.

Re: Any Indian physio here, who got NZ registration? Some PR queries?

Hi there, any luck with your registration? I am a trained and experienced physiotherapist. I have more then 12 years of experience and had own clinic back in India. I recently moved to Auckland as my husband is New Zealander. I am finding it very hard to find proper information and scope. We are also thinking about Australian option. I couldn't find one person even on social media who has gone through PBNZ process. Any help, anyone?
