Unhappy Can newly qualified UK physiotherapist (BSc undergraduate degree) work in the USA?

    Hi,

I am a BSc physio student and am due to graduate next year. I want to go and work in the US (ideally New York or DC) but it seems our 3-year degree isn't enough for the US standard. Does anyone here know anyone who went to work in the US straight after their undergraduate degree? Thanks to anyone who can shed any light on this confusing topic!

Re: Can newly qualified UK physiotherapist (BSc undergraduate degree) work in the USA?

    Hi

I was in the same position and got offered a job in Vermont, for when I graduated. Unfortunately the American Board which assesses your education openly told me I shouldn't have been offered the job because there are Americans qualified to do the job.
Sorry to be so bleak but they will put every obstacle they can find in front of you.
Education wise - check the National Qualifications Framework and find courses or certificates level 3 and above. If you can try and do some online level 3 courses to increase your points they may stand you in good stead.
The Americans will insist on 1 year work experience or a lot of educational points to make up for their 4 year degree.
I hope that helps, perserverance is the key.
    Good luck

Hi, I was wondering does anybody know if they do in fact accept physio who have studied in the UK and have at least one year post grad experience?
I have applied to agencies in new york and I am following the necessary steps to see if I can get my credentials recognised but is it pointless?? I think I would lack in the general education credit rating and would need to do CLEP courses in order to make up for this or would my 3 year degree even match the professional credits, I know the 4 year degree from Ireland is worth more in that respect. if anybody could help I would appreciate it.
