Hi

I have a F pt, in early 30,s who has a herniated disc L4-5 level, with Wikipedia reference-linkfacet joint involvement. She joined the gym a few weeks before sustaining her injury.

Currently, she doesnt have any pain, apart from tightness ocasionally on her erectr spinae and gluts. Has poor core stability;on rehab program at the moment.

She is keen to start the gym and I was wondering as to what sort of exercises should she start with at the gym. According to the pt, she participates in cuircut training, does cross training and stationary bike at the gym.

My undrestanding is that any ex which involves flexion and rotation would agg her disc issues, while extension and lat flexion will agg her facet joints. Also, I usually advice pts to refrain from heavy ex for six with disc problems.

Hence I adviced her to maintain cardiovascular fitness with cycling, cross trainer and brisk walking and jogging as tolerated.

Any suggestions?
