How does an EU newly qualified physiotherapist start work or convert to work in the UK?

My friend has just qualified as a physiotherapist in Italy. What is the best way for him to begin a career in the UK? Does he have to do any conversion study or what are the first steps to obtaining work or gaining experience in the UK?
