    Back brace advice please!!

    Taping
    photo (23).JPG
I am a physiotherapist in Sydney working in an aged care facility.
I have a resident here in his eighties, with severe dementia with an even worse thoracic kyphosis, as you can see from the photo.
He mobilises independently without aid and does not complain of any pain. I am trying to get him to use a 4WW by reminding him everyday and he is forgetting everyday.

I would like to be able to slow down/prevent his deterioration of his posture.
I have trialed a lumbar support with stays but it wasn't effective.

Could anyone recommend a back brace that might help this gentleman?
I'm happy to take any other suggestions as long as you keep in mind that any treatment must be completely passive as he is severely demented with difficulty to follow instructions.

    Thanks, physios!

    Re: Back brace advice please!!

What's the cause of the kyphosis. Osteoporosis fractures are common cause but may well have AS symptoms or even another seronegative spondyloarthropathy. It would be prodent to investigate cause before bracing at this late stage there is sometimes better just to promote lying on back for 10 mins every day.
