can I do sport massage as a qualified physiotherapist

    Taping
    Hi,
I am a fully qualified physiotherapist and owner of a private MSK service.
I have had lots of practical experience in massage and sports massage, as massage is included within physiotherapy scope of practice could I provide this as a separate service for patients that are looking for a general or sports massage? or would I need to go and get some other qualification in sports massage, even though massage is part of a physiotherapists scope of practice in treating and preventing injuries?

any help or advice is welcome

    thanks

    Matt

I believe this would depend on requirements by state. Even though you're a qualified physio, some states may require that you be certified in massage.

Exactly, it depends upon the state law. Moreover, it's your own personal choice.

If you are in the UK I would hope so! If not your course was pretty crap. Any soft tissue manipulation/massage should be the bread and butter skills of any practicing physio. Of course we understand that the USA is different where the job is a different one with less scope of practice due to many separate professionals doing the role of what a physio does in countries like Australia and the UK :-)

    Must have Kinesiology Taping DVD
Like BlueCrab said, it does depend on requirements by state. Certifications are necessary if you want to obtain the license.
