Hi, I had a rhinoplasty operation from a cosmetic surgeon in Toronto a few months before and I have heard that nasal massage is helpful for maintaining the shape of the nose. Is this true? Does nasal massage really help in maintaining the shape of the nose? What are some simple exercises that you can practice at home?

Hi icegirly - wow, this is a question I have never heard before. As a physio, it is something I have not come across. You really need to seek the advice of your cosmetic surgeon on this one. One would hope that the shape of your nose remains stable following surgery. Yes, there is a healing period where there would be some inflammation. Once that has all settled down, I can't imagine that you require any treatment, unless there were complications. Like I said, ask your surgeon these questions. I don't know if you'll get any physio's here advising otherwise. On other sites (eg cosmetic surgery), you'll probably get hit with plenty of advice - with people suggesting a multitude of therapy options. Go back to your surgeon for the best (soundest) clinical advice. You don't want any damage to be done.
