Post Filipino trying to be a PT in Canada?

    Taping
Hi! I'm a Filipino and I really wanted to go in Canada to work as a Physiotherapist. I recently graduated and passed the local licensure exam, I also had a 10 months internship in different hospitals and clinics (~1600 hours).

As I said earlier I wanted to work in Canada, but I heard that even if I am a graduate here at my country as a Physiotherapist I could only work at Canada as a PT Aide. I am wondering how to start as a PT aide, but of course preferably as a Physiotherapist in Canada. Is there any filipino also could help me with this?

    Thank you!

Re: Filipino trying to be a PT in Canada?

Hi Kabayan! Hope I'm not too late with my reply. May I know how your application is going? Regarding your question, I think this will depend on the curriculum of your school and which area you plan to practice to know whether your education stacks up for you to be able to practice as a PT aide or physiotherapist.

I am just starting my application, and targeting BC. Saw on their website that you need to be registered for PCE. In terms of paperwork, I haven't started yet. I'm using the updated reference on alliancept as a guide for application. Hope you can let me know the status of your application, it would be nice to have company/ support on this journey.

Re: Filipino trying to be a PT in Canada?

    Hi guys

So this is the organization Erika is talking about. Take a while and browse this site. It has almost all of the answers you need for the first steps you will need to take. CAPR - Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators Any additional questions you can give them a call and they will give you the most updated answers

    Good luck!

    Hi Niel,

As a background, I am still in the Philippines trying to find where I should focus my efforts in -- is it the US or Canada. But to answer your question:
    1. I don't know if there's any Facebook group I've tried looking and there are also no agencies. You have to do it mano mano. However, incidentally I recently got to chat with a Filipino who just started her Physiotherapy application for Canada. And she informed me you can start the credentialing process from the Philippines you won't need to be in Canada. Just look for the steps and forms on CAPR.

However, if you have a friend/ relative in Canada - it's better if you put their address on the forms instead because they will just use the address to send forms back to you.

    2. I don't know if there's a need to study again (I still think this depends on the school and your curriculum). What I'm sure though is the need to study the Canadian healthcare system, which you can do online. My friend's advise is to start credentialling (takes around 3 month) then while you're waiting take the Canadian healthcare subject (takes around 1 month I think) and then when they give you your feedback at least you can submit your lacking credential.

Please let me know where you are in your process, would love to get a support system in this. haha! Good luck!
