Hi honest-will - sorry your post seems not to have been noticed!
From your description, I have a suspicion that what you are suffering is Hoffa's syndrome. This is where the fat pad is getting nipped between the patella and the femoral condyle causing the kind of pain you describe. Problem is that as the fat pad gets nipped, so it swells some more making it more likely to be nipped. It's a bit like when you bite the inside of your cheek - it swells, makes it protrude and so get bitten again!
Sadly, the diagnosis is not easy so you may have to persist and even get another opinion - preferably from a good knee/sports injury surgeon. Treatment is usually by cortisone injections to try and reduce the swelling of the fat pad and if that doesn't work, it can be trimmed arthroscopically.
