What is the forums understanding of passive movements. As a student I conducted a movement in standing of the shoulder of a patient who had Sub-acromial -decompression done and was post op 1 day as instructed. I removed the sling cupped the patients elbow held the wrist firm and conducted some gentle grade 1 movments flexion extension abduction and adduction roughly between 20-25 degrees. I was told by the clinical educator that that was a active assissted movement, although I did tell the pateint to loosen up and relax. I was told that the muscles are still active and that the best position would be in lying. The instructions I received on the medical notes were from the surgeon saying ( GENTLE PASSIVE MOVEMENTS) no mention of position range/ degrees etc What is your take on this ????
Thanks
