    Spinal Surgery physio post op

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
I am in the process of making up an exercise program for patients who have undergone a laminectomy / discectomy and am interested to hear from physios opinions on this topic.

re: Spinal Surgery physio post op

For laminectomy/discectomy I do not see them pre-op.
Day 1 a chest check if warranted (very rarely warranted) and a quick r/v of log rolling style. Mobilisation is done by the nursing staff (almost always out of bh!!)
Day 2 review and correct gait as required. Teach core stability -basic TAb and neural stretches.
Day 3 check exercises (no more than three) are being done correctly and reinforce core stability.
Day 5 pt is discharged. Some are referred to hydrotherapy by the surgeon at six week check-up.
I recommend each patient contacts a PT of choice for a review around 4 weeks post-op.
