    bimalleolar ankle fracture recovery tips for normal mobility

    Hi, I have a bimalleolar ankle fracture that has been surigically repaired with 2 x two inch long screws in medial malleous and 1 smaller screw in lateral malleous along with a plate for stability held by a further 5 screws along fibular/lateral malleous. This happend nearly 5 weeks ago. I am currently in a camboot after being in a back slab cast for 4 weeks. I cannot get a right angle with my foot as my foot will just not move when i attempt to bring to toes up towards my ankle. Will this improve - i believe it is related to tendons and ligaments. Should I be concerned with the angle of my ankle? My heel does not even touch the base of the camboot to fit it properly. Not sure if I have given you enough info but am happy to add to this if anyone has some thoughts for me. THanks.

    I also had mine pinned following a nasty dislocation and fracture in July. Its taken me until now to get heel to floor and now I am in physio doing stretching and mobility exercises. Its slower than you think and sounds like you have what seems to be common amongst us ankle breakers. I was told my othopod right angles take time and the soft tissue takes work. Good luck with the resting now, you will remember it with fond memories once the physio starts! Plus your ankle does end up in the right place again but it takes time and exercise to get it there.

    Well.............Let us hope to u fast full recovery

    Anatomically lower third of tiba covered almost with tendons i.e. poor blood supply" naturally'' for all peopele which means recovery takes long time for healing process!

    be sure your coombot is in right position, good x-ray for the placement of yours screws,if its possible try to move your toes activly and raise yours affected leg above pillows when ur in bed,............i.e. avoid dangling position in sitting as much as u can,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
